REALISATION OF A SIGNIFICANT PROJECT IN UGANDA
EXECUTION OF THE WORKS ON THE REHABILITATION OF 100 KM OF ROAD
In January of 2021, Niskogradnja signed with Client Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) an important contract in the value of approx. USD 105 million including VAT. The project includes rehabilitation of 100 km of road (86 km of Mityana – Mubende Road and 14 km of city roads in the city of Mityana) with accompanying drainage works with preparation of the entire vertical and horizontal signage and lighting.
The width of the road specified in the Design is 11 m: 2 x 3.5 m of road surface and 2 x 2 m of road shoulder. In populated places, the extensions for bus stops, concrete channels and pedestrian paths are provided.Slow vehicle lane is to be built at the sections with rises.
Mityana – Mubende route with a length of 86 km is located in the central part of Uganda and connects two districts: Mityanu and Mubende. The beginning of the route is in Mityani and passes through areas: Myanzi, Kiganda, Kitenga and Mubende. This is a primary tourist route towards Kibale National Park.
Contract completion period is 36 months from the date of signing of the contract i.e. 15.04.2024. Through Addendum No. 1 (for the main road Mityana – Mubende 86 km) and 2 (for Mityana city roads 14 km), a change of road structure was adopted so that, instead of cementitious stabilisation stipulated in the contract, the existing material is to be mechanically modified with added crushed aggregate. For the above reason, it is almost certain that the extension of the construction period will be approved.
It should be noted that Energoprojekt was engaged in improvement of this route back in 1992. Ten years later, in 2002, the existing surface finish was repaired and since then, there were no interventions, not
even the regular maintenance.
Excellent and proven quality of works performed in 1992 was a basis for direct negotiations withthe Government of the Republic of Uganda and the Client (UNRA).
