WHEN YOU ENJOY YOUR WORK AND SHOW PERSISTENCE AND TENACITY, SUCCESS IS INEVITABLE 1/3

JSC Urbanizam i arhitektura has recorded a growth in contracting and stabilisation of business operations in more than half year. The knowledge and experience of the engineers and technicians of all professions realising the agreed design services through coordinated activities, is crucial for the implementation of signed contracts, as well as for acquisition of the new ones.  We asked three colleagues, a structural engineer, an architect and electrical engineer from JSC Urbanizam i arhitektura with considerable experience in design and supervision over the construction of building structures what their experiences were, what working in Energoprojekt provided for them, how they coordinated professional and private obligations and what motivated them.

Ana Stankovic graduated in 2003 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Belgrade, at the Department of Structural Engineering. She started working in JSC Urbanizam i arhitektura in 2018. Today, she is a Principal Engineer and Head of the Department of Structural Engineering.

“The core of my job is design of various types of structural systems for building structures. Apart from the design, I also manage the Department of Structural Engineering which implies continuous coordination with our management, cooperation with all design participants, as well as cooperation with Client’s representatives and contractors.”

Ana arrived to Energoprojekt as an engineer with considerable design experience not only on the market of Serbia, but also on the foreign markets, with excellent knowledge of domestic, but also of foreign, primarily Russian regulations. When asked about the experiences from that period she considers significant and influential for the development of her career, Ana responded: “Work on the project of the theatre in Surgut, Russia (Здание дворца искусств «НЕФТЯНИК») where I participated in all design phases, offered me an unforgettable experience. She added that, as a young engineer, working in a design and construction company enabled her to acquaint herself with various fields of construction industry, as well as to monitor in the capacity of design supervision the construction as per her own design.

Of her beginnings and working in Energoprojekt, Ana said: “When I arrived in Energoprojekt, I encountered a pleasant work environment and a great team and I soon fitted in and advanced. Each project I worked on posed some new challenge and brought new knowledge. One of the more significant projects I would like to mention is the structural design of commercial-residential centre in Blok 26 in Novi Beograd. I was engaged there as a senior structural designer of all phases from the Schematic Design, Design Development Phase to Construction Documentation. I’d like to mention the residential complex in Bezanijska Kosa “Block 24”, better known as “Kosa kvart” which is currently under construction. Particularly challenging project was the project of Narxoz University in Almaty in Kazakhstan which was, sadly, suspended with the occurrence of the pandemic of COVID 19.”

Ana points out the importance of following new achievements in her field. She strives to participate in seminars and professional lectures whenever possible, to regularly follow professional literature in the field of structural calculations (concrete, steel, wooden and geotechnical), and since structural engineering is a multi-disciplinary field, she often consults with various experts. In the following period, Ana intends to continue with working and advancing within EP UiA and adds: “I wish to be engages in new challenging projects and I look forward to further strengthening of EP “Urbanizam i arhitektura”, as well as to expansion of our team“.

In her free time, Ana enjoys walking by Sava River with her family and dog. She much enjoys travelling and strives to spend every free moment on a new trip. We wanted to know how such a modern and versatile woman coordinates her demanding job with her private obligations and personal interests. Ana responded: “Our job is such that we often face pressure due to short deadlines. I sometimes take my work home, but I always do my best to make sure it does not affect my family. On the other hand, the company shows understanding when I have family obligations. Good balance of work and family is a key to success”.

When asked what, in her opinion, sets Urbanizam i arhitektura apart from other employers, Ana responded: “Urbanizam i arhitektura is a company which still manages to maintain a high level of design quality which is very rare nowadays. The projects we work on are mostly of considerable social impact, so participating in these projects offers us particular satisfaction. As we spend the biggest parts of our days at work, work environment is important, since a company is essentially made up of the people working there. My message to the younger colleagues is that EP UiA is an ideal place for acquisition of experience and broadening of knowledge, since it employs great, experienced colleagues from whom much can be learned“.

Finally, with a smile, Ana added: “When you do what you love, when you enjoy your work, in a good work environment and show persistence and tenacity, success is inevitable!”
